A quick reminder that there are currently 2 work bans in place which we're asking you to enact as part of our protected industrial action campaign:

  1. Bans on participating in appraisals (that's your APD); and
  2. Bans on attending meetings with managers.

These bans will remain until a new EBA is agreed. The purpose of these actions is to exert pressure on UQ management to bargain in good faith and for us to secure a strong agreement for all workers at UQ - so please keep enforcing them!

We understand that some members are facing pressure to complete your APDs. This is protected industrial action, and any adverse action against you for taking part in the ban is unlawful, and there are penalties for individuals and corporations who contravene these protections. If your line manager (or anyone else) exerts undue pressure on you for enacting either of these bans (or any other protected industrial action), then get in touch and we'll sort 'em out (uq@nteu.org.au).

Management aren't listening!

After months of negotations, they said they wanted to finalise a new Enterprise Agreement by the end of 2022. They didn't. So get them moving. Tell them you deserve fair pay, secure employment and manageable workloads.

So, join the Week 1 Strike on Wednesday 22 February 2023!

UQ management could stop the coutdown at any time by proposing a fair and reasonable enterprise agreement.

Wednesday 26 October 2022

Last Thursday saw the incredible sight of hundreds of NTEU members from UQ, QUT, and Griffith banding together to make a noise about the issues we are all facing - insecure work, unsustainable workloads, and increased costs of living.

Congratulations to all members who took strike action and all those who attended the rally.

Management still refuses to offer a pay rise that stays ahead of inflation, won't talk about workloads, and is dragging its heels in the discussion of job security.

Therefore, a new week brings new bans to maintain the pressure! NTEU members can now implement two new bans in support of our claims for secure jobs, safe workloads, and a real pay rise:

These bans are protected industrial action. You can Download this FAQ about industrial action at UQ here. Unless we get an agreement earlier, these two bans will be in place until at least the 31st of December 2022. When implementing these bans, you should notify your supervisors using Workday.

Industrial action is more effective when we tell our colleagues and students why we're taking it! If you aren't already using our material, click here and you'll find a PowerPoint slide that you can use in classes; a Zoom background; an email footer and more.

In solidarity,

Dave, for the Strike Committee
